Some things I am passionate about, include but are not limited to: Sarawakian political history, youth & women’s public & political participation, sexual health & reproductive rights, the intersection of feminism and pop culture, sociolinguistics, urban sketching, public transportation, film photography, translated literature, sunscreen and blush.

Q: WHO IS NADINE IN HER OWN WORDS? A: I’m Nadine and I’m currently 28 (still, at the time of writing.) My actual name is Nadia, but a friend coined me this nickname a decade ago because there’s always too many Nadias in a room. I’m a born and bred Sarawakian who moved to KL to work (and later study!), but my mum’s family are of Singaporean Malay origins. Right now I’m mostly a university student, who happens to work freelance in her spare time & does advocacy work in multiple spaces. I’m more often seen doing things with KLSketchnation and Mekar Kami these days, though! My many previous lives include managing a Sarawakian youth advocacy campaign & a stint as a judge for the first women’s tribunal in Malaysia.
Q: WORDS TO DESCRIBE NADINE A: Resilient and multi-tasker

“EVERYTHING IS EITHER SOLVABLE OR WILL SOLVE BY ITSELF IF IT’S OUT OF YOUR HANDS”

Q: WHAT'S A QUOTE YOU LIVE BY A: Everything is either solvable or will solve by itself if it’s out of your hands — a saying my late dad used to coin for my younger, overly anxious self who had issues with letting go in general.

But also recently I’ve been thinking about a few other things that he also said: that “grief and joy can and should co-exist, but also how life in itself is transient and that nothing is truly permanent.” The latter is particularly useful when I worked in advocacy and politics, as a reminder that power in these spaces are often illusionary and fleeting
Q: NADINE AS A SWEET TREAT A: Matcha sofuto! Q: WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE COLOUR A: Blue and sage green
